I believe the best piece of technology to choose, based on my personal connection, is the in-flight TV screen. This plane feature is something I used more than my phone and book during a flight. Last semester, I traveled to Florence, Italy for a semester abroad. I was 2 weeks out of surgery, didn't know a single person, was not native to the Italian language and extremely nervous to be flying alone for the first time.
This airline feature provides movies, podcasts, music, time tracking, games and so much more entertainmanet to the flyer. I used this screen to watch some of my favorite comfort movies such as A Star Is Born, Anyone But You and Something's Gotta Give. I developed a strong emotional connection to it as I watched the flight time go from 8 hours down to 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
On the way home, I was eager to land in Boston, Massachusetts. I hadn't seen my family or friends for 4 months, missing big holidays such as Thanksgiving and my cousin Maria's wedding. This TV screen helped me in more ways than I could've imagined. The time tracking feature helped me geographically locate where I was traveling not just on this specific flight but on all the ones I took during my lifetime. I have visited 12 countries and over 54 cities around the world. The screen helped me stay grounded and feel connected although I was halfway across the world from what was familiar to me.
